The Lowestoft Photographic Club gathered on December 17th, 2025, for its Annual Christmas Party. This much-anticipated event brought members together to celebrate the festive season and their shared passion for photography. This year’s party featured a lively quiz organised by Paul Newson, which added a playful challenge to the evening. Alongside delicious party food and warm conversations, the event created lasting memories. As the year closes, members are already looking forward to the New Year’s kickoff on January 7th, 2026, with the exciting Knockout Competition.

Festive Gathering

A Festive Gathering Filled with Laughter and Camaraderie at the Christmas Party

The Christmas Party is a highlight on the Lowestoft Photographic Club calendar. It offers members a chance to relax, enjoy good company, and celebrate the year’s achievements. This year, the atmosphere was especially warm and inviting, with twinkling lights and seasonal decorations setting the scene.

Paul Newson’s quiz was a standout feature. Designed to test members’ knowledge of photography, history, famous faces and festive trivia, it sparked friendly competition and plenty of laughter. The quiz encouraged teamwork and conversation, making it a perfect addition to the evening’s festivities.

Members shared stories about their favourite photography projects from the year, exchanged tips, and discussed plans for upcoming shoots. The party food was another highlight, featuring a variety of tasty treats that kept everyone energised and satisfied throughout the evening.

Highlights from the Quiz and Party Food

The quiz included questions such as:

  • Identifying famous photographers and photographs from their work

  • Recognising camera features and naming them

  • Guessing music titles from small snippets

  • Answering Christmas-themed music questions

Teams competed enthusiastically, with some surprising answers and clever guesses. The quiz not only entertained but also helped members learn new facts and techniques in a fun way.

The food selection was thoughtfully prepared, offering both savoury and sweet options. Finger foods, such as mini quiches, sausage rolls, and cheese platters, were popular, alongside festive desserts like mince pies and Christmas stollen bites. The variety ensured everyone found something to enjoy.

Looking Ahead to the Knockout Competition

The excitement from the Christmas Party naturally leads to anticipation for the New Year’s first event: the Knockout Competition on January 7th, 2026. This competition challenges members to submit their best photographs for head-to-head judging rounds. Each round eliminates entries until a winner emerges, making it a thrilling contest for photographers of all skill levels.

The Knockout Competition encourages creativity and technical skill. Past competitions have featured themes such as nature, urban life, and abstract photography, pushing members to explore new ideas and techniques.

How to Prepare for the Knockout Competition

Members planning to enter the Knockout Competition can benefit from these tips:

  • Review past winning entries to understand judging criteria

  • Experiment with different styles and subjects to find a unique angle

  • Focus on composition, lighting, and sharpness to enhance image quality
