A printed photograph changes the way people look at an image. It slows everything down. The paper, tones, crop, and tiny finishing choices all start to matter. That’s what makes Lowestoft Photographic Club’s 2nd Printed Image Competition such a good night for anyone who enjoys photography beyond the screen. The competition takes place on Wednesday, 4th November 2026, at 7.30 pm, with entries judged by Simon Ciappara FRPS. The two categories for the evening are OPEN Colour

Lowestoft Photographic Club is hosting an evening with Mark Stothard on Wednesday, 28th October 2026, at 7:30 PM, focused on building practical Lightroom skills.

The upcoming 2nd Projected Image Competition is one of those evenings where small choices matter, strong ideas shine, and nobody has to wrestle a print mount into submission. Bliss.

Some photos are polite little darlings. They sit quietly on a screen and behave themselves. Others raise their hand and shout, “I could be brilliant, but I need a tiny bit of help.” That’s exactly where a Gallery Evening earns its keep.

Some photographs feel quiet at first, then stay with you long after you’ve looked away. That’s the pull of David Morris’s work. He isn’t chasing spectacle. He’s looking closely at familiar rooms, familiar faces, and the odd, charged moments that happen when people are between one state and another.

A printed image asks for a different kind of attention. It has to stand on paper, under the light, without the glow of a screen helping it along. That is part of what makes Lowestoft Photographic Club’s first printed image competition of the 2026 to 2027 season such an interesting evening for local photographers.

In 2021, Ian Bundey didn’t even own a camera. Just a few years later, he was FIA-accredited and photographing Grands Prix around the world for international media agencies. That’s a remarkable leap by any measure, and it’s exactly the story he’ll be sharing at Lowestoft Photographic Club on Wednesday 23 September 2026 at 7.30 pm.

A new club season always feels a bit sharper when the first competition lands, and Lowestoft Photographic Club is starting 2026 with a theme that can reward patience, imagination, and a good eye for light.

Some photographs deserve more than a quick glance on a phone screen. They need a room, a cup of tea nearby, and a few friendly people asking, “How did you get that light?” or “Was the gull really that close?”
